This weekend pupils from the Blue School in Wells gave up their weekend to spend time with Will Lang from Halsway Manor kicking off the work to present a 2 hour concert at the Festival on Saturday morning on the main stage. This is the fourth year we have run this project in collaboration with Halsway Manor and Will thought it got off to a flying start!
The theme this year is “reasons to be cheerful”, and the pupils have been selecting pieces to perform around this theme. Jenny Henderson who teaches music at the Blue School said “this is the most exciting thing happening in the music department now”. The enthusiasm of the students was obvious. It was also nice to see see ex Blue School students Alex Garden, Ford Collier, Henry Peacock, Phoebe Phillips and Angus Morrice returning to help with the project for this year.
There is another weekend workshop in June, but lots of work in the students spare time between now and the festival to produce a professional standard concert. The cncert is at 10:00 till 12:00 on Saturday 11th July and although on the main stage it is free and open to the public. The previous two project concerts have been festival highlights!
